Weekly Challenge…SHINE

Shine.

What a great theme!

Especially this week…I believe the sun took a vacation.

Snow and Ice and all shades of Gray.

So, I had to close my eyes and think about SHINE.

And this is what happened.

DSCN2238

A Prayer Box.

The perfect place to keep your prayers.

Or a rosary or prayer beads.

My art has been coming from a deeper place.

I think you know I was raised to be a Catholic,

and while I have inner-struggle with some of the

Church’s teachings,

much of the beauty has stuck with me.

The rituals, the peaceful quiet,

and the joyous hymns

are the parts I keep.

And God and Angels and Saints.

I believe in them.

That belief is what makes my soul SHINE.

My Art is just a reflection of me,

where my spirit is now.

Thank you Lisa (Wright Stuff)

for helping me SHINE this week.

Here’s another Angel

DSCN1907

He’s more of a hybrid.

An Angel-Kitty-Bear.

This is how he shines.

Peace and love,

Lisa

  4. Good Gracious Alive! :D Now For Sure I Agree..Great Minds "Do" Follow The Same Path! I Too Have Been Working On My Lit'l Boxes All Week. My Spirit Kept Hearing "Prayer Boxes" "P.R.A.Y.E.R. Boxes" Each Time I'd Try To Nail It Down As To What I Could Entitle Them. And When I Posted Friday Morning, I Had No Clue You Had Been Busily Creating Your Own Version. It's All Good Though, Isn't It? Hey..Maybe One Day When We Retire To The "Old Artist's Home" We Can Get Another Good Laugh Out Of This While We Rock On The Front Porch Sippin' Our Mint Julips And Vino. :D I Want You To Know Though Lisa..I'm Seriously Lovin' Yours! As Usual, Your Work Gets Me Straight In The Heart! Hugs Of Love And Laughter From The Peach State, Terri

  6. Keep finding that deep place, Lisa. Your art is becoming so gallery worthy I'm suprised none have approuched you yet. That prayer box is gorgeous!
Bear is such a cutie. How ever did you get to sit still for a photo. My Barnabas usually does a disappearing act when he sees the camera.

  10. Lisa, you can't help but shine! You are such a lovely soul! I too was raised Catholic and have kept parts of it with me but like you I do not agree 100% with all of the teachings. I love your art, always! Everything you make is beautiful! You are so talented, my friend. You spread sunshine with every piece of art you create and send off lovingly to a new home.
    hugs,

  11. Lisa you had me at the idea, even before I looked at your amazing work! "A prayer box to keep your prayers" - what a beautiful and fascinating concept. I love how much meaning and emotion you are able to convey in each of your pieces, and this is divine (no pun intended!)

  14. The Catholic service does such a good job of reminding us that God is awesome and holy and regal and worthy of all of our worship.

Thanx for sharing that with me.

  18. Hi Lisa!
Your work is so beautiful! I love how you use images from our faith to inspire. I am not attacking you or anything, but I'm truly curious to know what it is that bothers you about the Church?
I see so many artists that "used to be Catholic", but now follow a spiritual path... ? Many disagree with "some" of the teachings, but never say what. Can you enlighten me? I hope I'm not coming off harsh, 'cuz I don't mean to!
I'm thankful that you don't present the faith in a bad way... I've seen too much of that too! I love your art and look forward to seeing tons more!

  20. I've been so busy with finishing my OWOH entries and visiting a few blogs, I haven't been on time with anything this week. Although I KNOW this piece was made using polymer clay, I swear when I first saw this piece, I thought it was a genuine iconic box from the 14th CenturyI might have guessed it was older, had it not been for the image.

I love how you interpreted this challenge and I have to say that your beliefs really do SHINE in this piece. It's a super IA challenge piece.

  21. I know I have not been around very long but I can feel the shift coming through and it is beautiful. Much peace and grace to you as you continue to dive deeper...

  24. I love both your angels! I wasn't raised catholic but in the German Protestant church. I'm not a very religious person, but I do have my belief that I think has its home outside any church. However, I like to light candles in a Catholic church. Taking the best from everywhere. And like you, I like the old hymns.

  25. Hi Lisa, I'm just now making my blog rounds....assuming my computer stays "awake" long enough- grrr. I think you shine every day and you are SO correct that your art is a reflection of your inner spirit! Thanks for the regular doses of your spirit that you share- they mean the world to me!
    xoxo
